Electric touring-car racers sometimes cut sections out of their molded-foam inserts to provide a slightly looser tire fit on the rim. Doing so allows the tire’s contact patch to stretch slightly to conform to the surface and gain traction when conditions are slick. Use a caliper, as shown, to help you make precise cuts, so that each tire will be identical.
